Ferris
Chapter one

Koreryn Archer’s smiling face remained plastered across the tabloids no matter who had a baby or who was suffering from a drug addiction. Wearing Valentino and dripping with enough jewelry to cause her scale to lie about her weight. She was the self-made orphan who went from rags to riches within years after attending Lunar Heights Academy on scholarship. She was the high school sweetheart of Zephyr Kines heir at the time but now president of Kines science technologies. Inseparable since she entered the iron gates separating the school from the street Zephyr made her his life. Seeing them together made sense, especially for those who knew the truth about the Indigo phenomena and about their abilities, Koreryn’s destructive ability to dissolve neuropaths in the brain even reroute them and Zephyr’s ability telepathy and healing the brain of minor injury. They split rather unpredictably causing a chaotic scandal which caused both Zephyr and Koreryn’s faces to be pasted across every gossip rag across the U.S. for over a year. Now she stood with Hope’s arch-enemy Jonathan Kei in front of the billboard sign for a Worldvision charity event.
Hope sat in line at the grocery store cup of drip coffee in one hand, almond poppy seed muffin in the other gawking at the overly fake smile pasted across her and her twin sister Faith’s best friend. Could you still call someone who attacked you with their Indigo ability your best friend? If it weren’t for Zephyr Hope was sure she would have been a vegetable, still she couldn’t recall details of that night in her dorm only that Koreryn wasn’t herself. It was as if someone had taken over her body, sure she had ambition but she wasn’t nasty about it. Koreryn Archer was at one point furiously driven to achieving one thing in life getting out of what ever shit-hole foster home she currently resided in and making a place for herself in the world. That is one side of Koreryn everyone knew the other was that when she was eight she managed to erase her foster mothers mind when she accidentally pushed the bookcase in the living room into the brand new TV scared that she would be taken out of that foster home and into another she touched her foster mom and somehow convinced her that it was their dog who knocked the bookcase over. The Koreryn Hope knew wanted to only use her ability for good. Hope couldn’t help but smirk as she recalled Koreryn ranting soapbox speeches about the greater good, now the woman exploited third world countries and covered it behind charity balls like the one being held currently by Worldvision. Hope shook her head give it to Koreryn to donate a small amount of money to exploited children she helps exploit. She stood in her 20,000 dollar dress making a pledge for less than her outfit and accessories cost combined unknown as the first woman to go into the production of Biological and nuclear weapons, she stood by Jonathan Kei heir to running the largest black market in the world. Hope couldn’t help but sneer at People magazine ignoring others around her.
“That will be $1.50 Miss.” The clerk said quietly punching the buttons of her cash register.
Hope handed her exact change, she always made exact change for her coffee and muffin. It was apart of her routine on her way to work. Leaving the grocery store she began her walk through the Santa Monica Promenade on her way to Crossroads High school, granted not the most well known private school out there nothing like the school her father ran, but she decided she wanted to work up in education and turned down the possibility to enter Lunar Heights Academy with a free lunch ticket as it is she felt guilty enough taking over the family beach house as her home. She worked hard going to Berkley being followed by none other than Jonathan Kei Journalist major and self-reigious jerk. They managed to avoid most classes her being a Physics major with a minor in Secondary education and he in whatever disguise he believed to be hiding under. The man was a joke! Writing articles on science undermining religion using politics to force his opinion. She had been able to almost completely ignore him until he quoted her in an article on the Indigo Phenomenon, and then they found themselves once again face to face.
She had waltzed into his office blue eyes blazing fury pouring off of her in waves not that she could find anyone but herself able to sense that, she was after all an empath. Jonathan sat at his desk his body leaning back into the broad leather bound seat, the ground root of all corporate garbage. He was tall his ethnic background obviously Asian, with his black hair in perfect place, and certainly not lacking confidence.
“Wow Hope most women call to make a date, but I see you are persistent as ever to get into my pants.” He stated incredulously a sly smirk spread across his face.
Even now as she walked along the busy sidewalk her fists clenched around her coffee cup and she had an itch to strangle the life out of him. She still had fantasies of him sprawled out on his desk gasping for breath as she cut off his air supply with her hands.
She hadn’t responded to him other than to meet his innuendo with a furious glare and a toss of his latest article on his desk. He picked it up and smiled smoothly as though he had been expecting her for some time now.
“So you read it.” He acknowledged and glanced at her straight in the eyes giving her a sultry wink for extra measure.
“I could ring your skinny neck you jerk!” Hope growled. “How dare you use my words against me!”
“Well you yourself said that there was no definite surety that the Indigo phenomenon is real.” I was just elaborating your science report.
“Mr. Kei –“ Hope began but was cut off abruptly.
“Jonathan.” He interrupted lazily.
“Mr. Kei the scientific method is about theory, as you know scientifically nothing can be truly a proven fact, and you have just made a mockery of my Molecule Manipulation theories to the press.”
“Oh please Hope don’t be so dramatic! It was a measly two sentence quote, not an entire expose on you being a fraud!” Jonathan sighed before looking back into her face. “Besides it got you to come here didn’t it? How about we discuss this during lunch, I know a great sushi bar it reminds me of my mom’s home cooking!”
Hope felt a new degree of anger at that moment, he would humiliate her and discredit her in the same proposal for a lunch date?
“Get bent!” She stated calmly heading to the door to leave his office.
“Hey Hope!” Jonathan called out to her leaving his desk to catch up to her.
He closed the door as she wrenched it open and gazed at her arrogantly.
“It’s my job to expose charlatans.” He leaned into her kissing her unexpectedly.
Color rose to her cheeks and she knew by the look in his brown eyes that he could see it.
“Let me know when your ready to quit following the almighty Zephyr Kines like a lost puppy. I’ll be more than happy to help you pick up the lost pieces of your shattered reality.” He grinned at her and opened the door to his office watching her leave with a wink that only caused her to get angrier. Worst yet the thoughts and feelings filled her head, when she left his office she could do nothing more than go home and spend the rest of the time trying to clear her head. She dreamed of him for months afterward, going to bed knowing she would dream of the two of them intertwined caused severe insomnia that Zephyr had to correct, yet Hope couldn’t figure out why. Two things became clear Jonathan Kei had a secret that he told no one about; the other Jonathan was struggling just as much as she was with his feelings about the two of them..
Hope couldn’t help but growl she had never felt so humiliated and frustrated with someone before. No one could make her as upset as Jonathan Kei, the same jerk that pushed her from Val Victorian by two points, the same jerk who made her out to be an idiot during history lessons. She wanted to squeeze the life out of him, beat him to a pulp and he was the only guy she had been so undeniable attracted to. Only two people knew it her twin sister who she could never hide anything from and Jonathan himself who used it to his advantage whenever he had a chance.
“Hey Hope!” The yell stopped Hope in her tracks and spun around to face who ever called her name.
She found the security guard chuckling at her as he stood guard over the gates of Crossroads high school. She had passed it entirely while thinking of the entire Jonathan Kei situation. Walking back she smiled at Ethan in thanks before entering the gate to the school.
Her classroom was a little unorthodox with brown berber carpeting and soft lighting, avoiding the harsh florescent lighting entirely. She kept all the desks in a horseshoe shape around the chalkboard. Putting her satchel on her desk she pulled off her spring jacket and began to open her lesson plan.
“Ms. Southwick?”
Hope turned around and found herself face to face with Angie Miller her parents spent most of their time in Paris and Tokyo working for their Fashion magazine. Angie saw them once a year; they always managed to see her at Christmas time. Hope had been working with her for about two years now and knew most of the intimate details of Angie’s life.
“Angie how are you? Did you have a good weekend?” Hope said grabbing a hold of Angie’s hand with a gloved one, she had learned from experience not to touch any of her students. The last time that happened she found out that Karl Jeffery’s had been sleeping with three girls in her class and none of them knew about it, she preferred not to know the inner details after that experience. It nearly put her out of commission for the day especially after touching him briefly on the shoulder to let him know he did a good job.
“It happened again! I’m freaking out here! Look watch!” Angie exclaimed and held out her hand to Hope’s desk.
Hope watched the glass blown paperweight her sister bought her in Brazil levitate in mid air and spin slowly in a circle. Angie was shaking her face white as a sheet she lowered her hand and the paperweight came down with a clink back on her desk.
“Wow Angie that’s wonderful! Have you been practicing?” Hope asked encouragingly thinking back to when the girl accidentally found out she had this ability she slammed her ex-boy friend into the lockers with out using her hands. Hope had Zephyr come in and smooth over the memory so that Angie’s ex couldn’t remember the entire fight very well. Hope knew it could have been disastrous.
“Yeah for a while I thought that it had just been my imagination and that I didn’t have the ability at all. But last night it happened although I can’t do it for long it causes me a pretty heavy duty headache.” She looked over at Hope her face alive with excitement.
“It’s common for the headache at first, your using a part of your brain that others are not able to use. But as you continue to practice the stronger you become in your ability the less headaches you’ll have.” Hope answered her stating facts as she thought of her sister Faith and how she struggled to contain her own ability.
Faith was working in Nicaragua currently working on teaching the farmer’s sustainable farming so that the soil would not deplete nearly as bad and they would get more out of their crops. Faith was an ecologist and spent most of her time in third world countries to teach people how beat hunger. Not bad really even though Hope and Faith’s Father was not too happy about the fact that she finished Law school and didn’t become a lawyer Faith was happy and that in Hope’s mind was all that mattered.
“My sister had the same problem she would end up in bed from a severe migraine sometimes.” Hope replied vaguely her thoughts lost on Faith. She hadn’t been able to feel her twin for several days now and Faith hadn’t called anyone in over a week.
“What can your sister do?” Angie asked curiously she was always interested in other’s abilities.
“Faith is a prophet she can tell you certain parts of your possible future although she rarely divulges the information to anyone.” Hope replied carefully she and her sister didn’t tell anyone else the real truth, that they shared their abilities to a certain extent and that they could become immune to others abilities if they used them too often on them, Zephyr couldn’t use his at all unless they were completely open to him mentally.
“Wow amazing she’s like a fortune teller!” Angie was excited thinking how cool it would be to be a prophet.
Hope opened her mouth to tell her that these abilities should be used with caution and responsibility when the first bell rang, Angie had five minutes to get to her homeroom and it wasn’t in Hope’s classroom.
“I’ll talk to you later Ms. Southwick.” She said and practically skipped out of the classroom.
Hope couldn’t help but sigh after all didn’t she seem plenty of people who had abilities at Lunar Heights Academy be reckless with their powers? They learned over time that it was a dangerous game, either that or they ended up like Thomas Webster who was locked up in a high security facility because he still abused his ability to manipulate +sulfur molecules igniting various things on fire with a thought. Now he spent his life in a prison cell that was completely sulfur free so that he would not have a chance to escape again. In college they had spent a considerable amount of time trying to find as many Indigo’s as they could. She had heard rumors that there was even a child in Mongolia who could bend space and time.
Teenagers began to fill her classroom taking their seats and Hope walked over the television mounted in the corner turning it on for the school news.
Zephyr Kines stood on the top floor of Kines tech the latest garbage magazines in a messy pile on his desk. It figured didn’t it that the new Koreryn would attempt to take Jonathan from Hope Zephyr smiled lightly not that Hope knew that He was hers to begin with. Everyone knew it and it didn’t take telepathy to figure it out anyone who noticed Jonathan’s fake devil may care attitude and goggling eyes could see it. Zephyr glanced at people magazine once more Koreryn’s over confident smirk carefully in place, her head held high as though she was looking down on everyone, with dark blue eyes Zephyr swore weren’t hers. Glancing over at the picture he had of her when they were freshman in college on his desk her eyes were light blue the light of the sun adding an extra twinkle that gave her a luminescent look to her appearance, she smiled brightly as though nothing evil could ever touch her. That sheen wasn’t there anymore, her smiles weren’t innocent anymore every one of them seemed to be oozing of malicious intent and hidden agenda.
“I see your still keeping your scrapbook up to date eh?” Zander Fairfax stood at the door dressed in khaki shorts and a Hawaiian shirt in his hands were two bottles of iced tea. His hair was bleached from the sun, his blue eyes standing out from his tanned face. He walked into the office and tossed a bottle for Zephyr to catch. Catching it with ease he nodded in thanks and popped the top taking a long swig greatfully.
“What brings you here?” Zephyr asked ignoring the question entirely, Koreryn Archer was a touchy subject and no one was brave enough to broach the subject.
“I called Faith’s hotel they say she checked out a week ago, but according to Andrew Crane she was supposed to stay there for another two weeks. The co-op that she was supposed to be lecturing at said she never did show up, and she isn’t answering her cell.”
Zephyr sighed pulling a hand through his white blonde hair and glanced once more upon the Los Angeles skyline. Minutes past before he looked back at his close friend again his eyes showed concern and nervousness.
“Have you spoken to Hope yet?” Zephyr asked setting his iced tea bottle on his solid oak desk.
“No I wanted to talk to you first; I mean you know how Hope is she might be insulted if I asked if she sensed her twin lately.” Zander answered he didn’t exactly have the smoothest relationship with his wife’s twin sister.
“I know it’s hard to deal with Hope sometimes, she didn’t exactly warm up to you but she and Faith were inseparable from birth and as long as Hope thinks Faith is okay than we can trust that Faith is okay.”
“She’s hard to deal with? Zephyr Hope was giving me a death look with her eyes when Faith and I were at the alter saying I do. She told me that she was taking kendo so that she could beat me senseless if I ever hurt her sister.”
Zephyr chuckled Hope was dramatic sometimes and had a tendency to go over board, after all he once decided to tap into her thoughts when she was speaking with Jonathan Kei in college, she didn’t have any romantic feelings for him just the desire to strangle him to death.
“Zander you have to understand things from Hope’s point of view. You came out of the blue and swept Faith off her feet leaving Hope abandoned. Did you know that Faith and Hope slept in the same bed from birth to the age of 17?” Zander nodded at his friend sure he knew the facts but he couldn’t understand. Zephyr sighed trying to think of another approach. “Hope was the closest person to Faith until you came along; you usurped her from her VIP place in Faith’s heart. How would you feel if some guy came in and took Faith away from you practically overnight?”
Zander’s face softened in thought, and then his blue eyes seemed sad. Zander appreciated this moment of pity that he was feeling for Hope as long as Hope wasn’t there to see it; she would have thrown a tantrum claiming that Zander would never truly understand she really was the angrier of the two. Didn’t make sense in an ironic sort of way that an Empath wasn’t capable of curbing her emotion as though she felt too much Hope would lash out not thinking of how embarrassing her dramatic behavior would be later.
“Look I suggest you talk to Hope before we take further action in the Faith department, you know how Faith can be she follows her gut without thinking twice about the consequences of her actions.”
Zander sighed and glanced once more at the pile of magazines gaping at the two on the front cover.
“Koreryn is with Jonathan Kei!!!” Zander asked his mind filled with mixed emotions.
“That I highly doubt.” Zephyr stated calmly. “I happen to know for a fact that Jonathan is devoted to someone else and he would never want her to have the wrong impression.”
“Oh?” Zander replied his left eyebrow arched with curiosity.
“If you don’t know who it is then you’re not paying attention at all.” Zephyr said in a mocking secret tone. “Well pay attention tonight we were luckily able to avoid going to the Worldvision fundraiser event but we aren’t so lucky tonight. I’ll be taking Hope with me to the Amnesty International Charity ball this evening; I assume you’ll be escorting your sister.”
Zander sighed and finished off his iced tea before wincing in response Zander and his sister Ziza had been at odds ever since he had caused her ex-boyfriends 500 gallon tank to boil over. He was happy he did it too, they were fighting in the kitchen and even with their voices very low he heard the guy call Ziza some very insulting names. Zander then went into the kitchen pulled his sister out and drag her out of the apartment but not before boiling all the man’s precious salt water fish. As far as he was concerned the man deserved it, but Ziza felt that she could have handled it if Zander hadn’t intervened he was sure the man would have had a few broken bones. Zander was the less aggressive of the two being a molecule manipulator he could excite H2O molecules causing water to freeze or heat up.
“Yeah I’m bringing Ziza she’s still upset that I destroyed her last relationship although I don’t see what she saw in that jerk one bit he was an asshole.” Zander nodded to Zephyr before doing a silly handshake they had started in high school. “I’ve gotta go Zeph I imagine they need me at work my father is having a hard time deciding where the Biology grants should go to.”
“Later Zander.” Zephyr replied before motioning to his bottle of tea. “Thanks for this I appreciate it, I don’t get out of this office often enough to get anything but vending machine food.”
Zander just chuckled before leaving out of the office doors; he did after all get the tea out of the vending machines on the tenth floor. Zephyr didn’t get out of the office at all!
Zander nodded to Zephyr’s secretary Amy who knew the old quicksilver crew pretty well. She nodded back before returning back to the task of levitating files into their proper folders in the filing cabinet. Zephyr loved to surround himself with Indigos making others with abilities feel safe about their gifts although there were still plenty who hated their gifts. Getting into the elevator he thought about what he had to do for the day, besides going to Fairfax holistics his father’s company, he needed to talk to his sister perhaps he should go to a flower shop first and buy some tiger lilies most likely the only way he was going to get his sister to behave appropriately is to bring a peace offering if only he could figure out what to get the big cats she worked with.
Ziza Fairfax snorted as she watched her brother come into the cat house with a bouquet of tiger lilies and a container of pounce. His eyes seemed to be sincere although he approached her with caution.
“You’re kidding right?” her very light blue-green eyes were shinning with laughter.
“One can try can’t they? The flowers are for your cats I figured I’d give you the pounce.”
“Hahaha very funny, you’re lucky I’ve already fed Eleanor or you’d be in a crystal dish in her cage.” She gestured to the sleeping Black Panther in the jungle like cage.
Zander swallowed painfully causing Ziza to roar with laughter her unusually pointed incisors showing as she laughed he knew she would never feed him to her cats they’d end up with indigestion.
“Thanks for the flowers brother but the answers no.” she spun away to begin the rest of her work.
“What do you mean no?” Zander asked her in confusion.
“No to whatever your trying to butter me up for, I’m still a little peeved about Brodie’s aquarium he had over 1,500 dollars worth of fish in there, salt aquariums are hard to maintain and very expensive too!”
“Hey it’s not my fault you attract the worst men in Los Angeles, did you already forget what he called you?”
“It must have been my animal magnetism and I Definitely did not and if you hadn’t pulled me out of the house so quickly I would have taught him really quick never to call me such nasty things. So much for boyfriends meeting my brother for dinner.”
“Ziza your lessons have a tendency to cause your ex-boyfriends to go into the hospital.” Zander whined at her there was no getting Ziza to understand things; she was more instinctual than thoughtful. Faith once told him that someday Ziza would find her mate and the man would be able to ease Ziza’s rough edges but who knew when that would happen, if only it would happen now!
“Hey if you’re talking about Bobby Jakobs in high school you know he had it coming; besides all I did was break his leg!” Ziza defended herself and allowed Zander to follow her into an empty cage she took a broom and began to sweep it out.
Zander decided not to mention that it was broken in three places, Ziza not only had animalistic tendencies, exceptional balance and grace, she also had inhuman strength. Zephyr once asked if they should test to see if she would land on all four limbs if she fell from a distance.
“Look I just came down here with a peace offering since we have to attend an Amnesty International thing at the Omni tonight as dad’s representatives.”
“Oh god I forgot completely, shit!” She tapped her tennis shoe against the cement floor.
“What did you have something more important planned.” Zander said jokingly.
“Yes dear brother I did I was going to do a presentation to the Zoo manager hoping that I could get more funding for the cat house.” She glanced out of the cage and saw her partner feeding one of the bengals their dinner. “Hey Stephanie I need to talk to you.”
Zander walked out of the cage to follow Ziza but she paused and looked back at him carefully searching his eyes.
“Zander just go home I know you’re worried about Faith according to Hope she hasn’t heard from Faith in over two weeks. Why don’t you go and do something to clear your mind, go surfing or something.” She kissed him lightly on the cheek. “I’ll be ready to be picked up by seven thanks for the pounce by the way.” She continued to her partner who wasn’t going to be happy that she needed to do the entire presentation; they had been working on for weeks, by herself. Ziza took a deep breath something on the air didn’t smell right, she smelled change.

Hope glided through the water her arms pulling her though as her legs dolphin kicked as her body weaved through the water in a graceful butterfly stroke. Her sandy blonde hair was pulled up into her swimming cap and her goggles were sure to leave red panda rings around her eyes. But this was the only time she allowed herself to face the reality of things. Like when her and her sister Faith found out that the person they always believed to be their biological dad wasn’t. Their mother had an affair with their adoptive father’s best friend, and then shortly after their mother got pregnant their father died in a car accident. She was a very attentive mother always so loving and caring, perhaps that was her biggest fault. James Southwick was a little bewildered when his wife smugly confessed to him of her affair. But soon their mother wasn’t so well, she seemed frail and her aura was almost transparent. She looked tired and one night her mother went to sleep and didn’t wake up. James was a wonderful dad never once did he seem to resent his adoptive twin girls, although they had their fathers loner attitude they certainly followed James when it came to academics.
Hope inwardly smiled she couldn’t be more happy with the father she had he was everything to her. Faith was a little different when the truth came out. She seemed angry at first and a little disappointed in their mother. It was shortly afterwards that Faith met Zander and the closeness that Hope thought only twins could share disappeared. Zander was probably the only one who knew where Faith was, he was the only one she kept real close contact with. Maybe it was odd but she felt that two weeks was an awful long time for her sister not to call. She picked up the pace in her lap swimming she tried hard to keep the jealousy down she knew Zander wasn’t a horrible guy; he was perfect for her sister. Hope just wished that their loving each other didn’t make her feel so far away from her best friend, after all Faith and she came into the world together, they shared abilities, they used to share everything until Zander Fairfax came along. She could hate him if it weren’t for the fact that Zander made Faith so damn happy. But he did and so she couldn’t justify that hurt and anger she felt was she watched them become more of a couple and her more of a third wheel. She paused mid flip-turn as she saw a hand waving in the water in-front of her face and she pulled up for air.
Zephyr Kines stood before her in a white tux, his long blonde hair braided down his back, his brilliant blue eyes twinkling in amusement as his lips gave her a cheerful smirk.
“I knew you’d forget that we have places to be, that’s why I came an hour and a half early. Get out, get washed and dressed my love, we have a ball to attend tonight.”
Hope sighed glancing up at Zephyr petitioning for him to go alone, she hated these stupid events, especially the stupid fake smiles and dresses that all the woman were parading in.
“What’s this one for?” Hope groaned how come she had to go to these things when Faith was the one who was all for fighting poverty.
“Amnesty International.” Zephyr answered grinning as he heard her groan more when she heard Amnesty she knew it wasn’t one she could skip.
“Why do they have to do these stupid events why don’t they just ask for your donation, they’re just wasting money putting these things together?” Hope whined.
Zephyr nodded to her while gesturing for her to get out of the pool. She pulled herself out and wrapped herself in one of the towels that was sitting on a lawn chair beside the pool.
“Make sure you wear the Temperley London your father sent you last week.” He stifled his laughter more as he heard Hope groan more.
Stumbling into the living room through the glass doors, she ignored the water streaming down from her hair onto the bamboo floors. Mumbling to herself she walked through the living room down the hallway and into the bathroom. Turning on the shower, she struggled through pulling the bathing suit off of her and jumped under the hot steam. She squeezed an obscene amount of shampoo into her hand and scrubbed her scalp with a vengeance. The last thing she needed was to come into the Omni reeking of chlorine under the nose of Koreryn Archer. Balancing on one foot she grabbed her razor and attempted to shave her leg while rinsing her hair under the stream, this continued even through a few nicks and cuts.
Thoroughly scrubbed she walked out of her bathroom in an ylang-ylang scented cloud. Her hair pulled in a very tight chignon rather than her usual loose ponytail, her face painted up in what she believed to be a law against nature but would probably be mild compared the woman who would be prancing around like a bunch of arrogant peacocks. She walked into her closet to pull out the recent clown suit that her father so lovingly sent; too bad Temperley London didn’t create a fair trade line. Pulling out the classic black and white dress she dragged it on and reached with out much success to zip it up. Biting down on her bottom lip she swallowed a scream of frustration and walked out of her bedroom and into the living room. Classic designer dress hanging off of her like rags.
She found Zephyr sitting comfortably on her couch reading one of the many magazines that collected dust on her coffee table.
“Bastard.” She greeted him casually.
“Need a zip?” Zephyr asked his mouth holding a crooked smile.” It must have taken you ten minutes to staunch your pride into getting me to help you. It would explain why we are now ten minutes off schedule.”
“Just do it.” She snapped turning her back to him so that he could zip her up.
“Well someone is snippy today aren’t we?” He zipped her up not at all upset for her lack of modesty as a full view of her sheer g-string and lack of a bra.
She turned around her head held high a tell-tale frown; she sniffled haughtily and turned her head.
“Dearest best friend I’m so sorry that I’ve appeared crass towards you. I just really wish to exchange this night of tossing well rehearsed insults with Koreryn for swimming a few miles and avoiding Jonathan Kei at all costs.”
“We must keep up appearances Hope.” Zephyr answered his voice low and chastisement.
“That tone makes me want to poke your eyes out.” Hope answered sweetly her eyes a stormy grayish blue.
“Come on we have fifteen minutes to beat traffic and my father’s old driver.” Zephyr pulled a somber Hope behind him.
“Great so we’ll be late.” Hope mumbled and followed her best friend to the white limbo that was an eyesore in her front yard.
The long crystal flute of champagne in his hand had gone warm at least a half an hour ago, his almond shaped brown eyes remained fixed on the main entrance. It was after all in her nature to be late and it wasn’t because she found it fashionable. She detested being at these fundraisers
“She’s over by Ziza, already retreating back as far as she can from human contact.” The man’s voice was confident and strong. Jonathan had heard it since he was a junior in high school.
“Zephyr as usual it’s wonderful to see you again.” Jonathan said with forced politeness, his smile sarcarinely sweet.
“Oh please Kei, whenever have we been on first name terms.” Zephyr responded before glancing around. “Where is your date? I assume it’s my ex-fiance again correct?”
Jonathan narrowed his eyes at Zephyr his face rising a little with color.
“I’m not dating or ever will be dating your precious Koreryn. She’s a bit to like playing with a pit viper for my tastes.” Jonathan’s eyes were no longer on Zephyr Kines but following the lithe form in a sleek black and white dress.
“Hmm the Koreryn I know was compassionate and giving.” Zephyr answered a flicker of sorrow filled his eyes for a moment before they turned icy and emotionless. “But no I suppose not, you wouldn’t dare date Koreryn when you’ve been chasing the same girl since you corrected her recitement of a quote in History class. You wouldn’t want her to think that you liked her best friend.”
“Ex-bestfriend.” Jonathan corrected. “Koreryn makes sure everyone knows that now. She’s actually dating my cousin and trust me they are perfect for each other.”
“Right.” Zephyr gritted his teeth he noticed that Jonathan’s attention was divided. “I don’t understand why you presue her she’s made it more than abundantly clear she only wants to strangle you.”
“She’s mistaken and is confused about how she feels about me.”
“Or maybe

T.S. S. Eliot

He couldn’t help but smile as he watched her brush another stray tendril from her eyes, now that she had started at Ouran University she had finally been convinced to grow her hair out. He loved its current stage especially when she pulled it up into a loose bun with her pencil, stray pieces falling out due to their shortness. Placing her highlighter end to her lips she clicked it lightly against her white teeth, and paused rolling her stiff neck before peeking her eyes out over her black oval shaped glasses. He beamed at her as he glanced into her chocolate brown depths, every time he glanced into them he felt utterly lost. She sighed and pulled the cap off the end of her highlighter and closed it. Placed it in her textbook to keep her place ignoring the case study entirely as she kept her eyes locked on him, he echoed her movements without a thought and pushed his own textbooks away. He watched her eyes darken sensually as she crawled along their living room floor clad in nothing but one of his old sweatshirts and a pair of loose pajama pants. He couldn’t help but feel all moisture leave his mouth when she looked at him like that. Her eyes were so expressive so intoxicating even when they were in the host club he couldn’t help but be drawn to her beautiful eyes.
“Takashi.” She called his name falling from her lips caressingly, leaving him entranced with the curl of her tongue, glancing at the night sky from their apartment windows briefly.
“Ah.” He answered feeling more speechless that his usual silence.
“My brain is mush; we’ve been studying for hours it’s seven at night already.” She crawled into his lap playfully brushing her lips against his own.
This playfulness was a side of Haruhi that only he saw and if it weren’t for their three year relationship he would never believe Haruhi had this side, he gave her a knowing smile he liked these rare moments when she would purposely be seductive. As the years had gone by Haruhi had become more aware of herself and her actions, which when Mori had found her again after his year studying abroad with Mitsukuni, he felt was a very dangerous combination since she was already excruciatingly intelligent.
His eyes locked on her own remembering clearly the moment he glanced into her eyes through those ridiculously thick glasses she used to wear, it took everything in him to keep the emotions clear from his face. When their relationship was out in the open her designations had increased amazing believing that they had a yaoi relationship after being caught making out under an elm in the Ouran high school gardens. She had cunningly used it to her advantage to pay off her dept something he found to be artfully shrewdness on her part.
Her tongue brushed against his lips begging for entrance which he answered pulling her into a drugging kiss. She twined her arms around his neck her fingers caressing his neck encouragingly. He waited for her to close her eyes before surrendering entirely to their kiss, trying to avoid the sadness that lurched into him reminding him that he had one month before she went to begin a year at Oxford University something that they had discussed at great length.
It was no secret that Haruhi was being sized up by two rather important men, she played oblivious putting on a rather well versed act but Takashi knew she was very keen on observation. Yuzuru Souh and the elder Ootori head made it quite clear they intended to sculpt Haruhi into the perfect bridal candidate for their sons. Only one thing or should we say person stood in their way, Takashi himself. At first they didn’t seem concerned at the evolving relationship between the two after all there was a two year age gap and Takashi had bound himself to serve his cousin Mitsukuni Haninozuka. It had only become an issue as the years went by and still there was no separation between the two, it escalated when news had come to everyone that Takashi and Haruhi would be moving in together. Takashi and Haruhi were quite aware that this scholarship from Ootori Industries was a clear move to separate the couple who had now lived together for a year. While chairman Souh offered her a place to stay in England coincidently in the same mansion his son resided in. He was not yet aware that Tamaki Souh was quite smitten with someone else getting over his school boy crush on Haruhi. She told Takashi she intended to refuse the offer and her eyes widened in shock when he told her that she would be stupid to not take this opportunity. He knew that this would be an opportunity of a lifetime, he was proud of her self-made image she was so strong and studying abroad would help her.
“I feel confident that you will come back to me.” He had responded to her helping her make up her mind to accept.
When she took the offer Kyoya Ootori made no move to hold his feelings at bay. He tried to make it seem purely professional but Takashi could see the hope fill the guarded man’s eyes. To the trained eye of Takashi he knew Kyoya was very much in love with her not to mention that she was now the only way for a clear shot to the head of Ootori Industries. He had not been so bold as to try to separate the two with his manipulations he seemed to believe it would be better to let well enough alone.
“He wont win.” Takashi remembered the knowing voice of his cousin and best friend.
“Ah.” Takashi had answered vaguely in return.
He broke off the kiss gazing into her perfect brown eyes that were glazed over with hunger. Yes Kyoya Ootori would not win and Takashi Morinozuka had one month to make sure. He smiled at her squeal as he picked her up carrying her over his shoulder like a sack of flour and carted her off to their bedroom this night would be the beginning of creating a memory that would stay with Haruhi for a year.

T.S.
